A safe and secure school environment is foundational to effective teaching, learning, and community trust. These standards outline the expectations for all new construction and modernization projects within the district. They reflect current best practices, district priorities, and insights from administrators, facilities leadership, technology services, student services, and school-site staff.

Safety and Security standards address:

  • Physical safety (access control, surveillance, infrastructure hardening)
  • Psychological safety (welcoming environments, visibility, supervision)
  • Emergency preparedness and response
  • Protection of students, staff, and visitors
  • Campus resilience during natural disasters or utility outages

These standards apply to all school types: early childhood, elementary, middle, high school, and district facilities.
