Zoning & Compartmentalization

Buildings shall be designed to allow:

  • Lockable zones that separate academic areas from: 
    • Event spaces
    • Gyms
    • Libraries
    • Multi-purpose rooms
    • Fields and joint-use facilities

After-hours users should never have access to classroom wings.

Hallways, Corridors & Supervision

  • Corridors shall have clear sight lines and proper lighting.
  • Avoid deep alcoves or hidden nooks.
  • Install cameras in high-traffic interior spaces such as: 
    • Main hallways
    • Entry corridors
    • Libraries
    • Gyms
    • MPRs and cafeterias

Bathroom Safety

Design bathrooms to reduce unsupervised activity:

  • No entry doors; instead use open, no-sightline vestibules
  • Sinks located in a visible public zone when feasible
  • Provide adequate lighting and durable materials
  • Layouts that support frequent staff checks

Infrastructure to support future acoustic event sensors (fights, vandalism)
