Purpose

To store and distribute curriculum materials, core novels, and consumables; particularly critical in grades 6–12 but increasingly needed in elementary.

Activities

  • Housing curriculum sets and student consumables
  • Storing teacher editions and boxed instructional materials
  • Large-scale textbook distribution and returns
  • Processing of damaged or obsolete materials

Considerations

  • High-capacity shelving, ideally movable compact shelving
  • Wide aisles for safe access
  • Adequate clearance for pallets during inventory peaks
  • Close proximity to circulation desk (secondary)
  • Space for extra consumables (often in 5-box-per-teacher sets at elementary)
  • Work surface for sorting and organizing
  • Secure storage rooms with restricted-access locks at high schools
