The district provides an extensive portfolio of before- and after-school programs that operate year-round, including SEED (Structured Enrichment, Exploration, and Development), ELOP (Expanded Learning Opportunities Program), Meet & Eat morning programs, teacher-led enrichment activities, and seasonal camps. These programs serve transitional kindergarten (TK) through 5th grade at elementary schools and 6th graders at middle schools, with the option to include 7th and 8th graders when capacity allows.
Because these programs rely on district facilities outside of regular school hours, their success depends heavily on the availability, flexibility, and suitability of spaces. The focus group meeting provided important insight into how facilities are used jointly, the challenges staff face, and the ideal conditions for supporting high-quality expanded learning.
The district’s joint use of school facilities for before- and after-school programs is expansive, highly utilized, and central to community support. The programs are growing, diversifying, and serving more families each year. To sustain this growth, the future facility projects could consider incorporating program needs into long-range facility planning, including dedicated SEED classrooms, improved storage, safe parent entry zones, outdoor access, and collaborative teen-center environments at middle schools.
