About

(Tech labs, business classrooms, graphic design, ICT, education, some engineering coursework)

Purpose

Provide flexible instructional spaces for computer-based learning, design, simulation, and introductory hands-on work.

Activities

  • Computer-based design (CAD, graphic design, coding)
  • Virtual enterprise simulations
  • Business/marketing instruction
  • Photo/video editing
  • Career exploration modules (at middle school)
  • Small hands-on modules
  • Collaboration requiring hands-on kinesthetic activities allowing for movement and space for creativity

Considerations

  • 25–35 high-performance computers
  • Large displays / multiple screens
  • Modular furniture (preferably tables, not desks)
  • Flexible seating
  • Handwashing stations
  • Storage for small manipulatives, robotics kits, cameras
  • Higher electrical capacity
  • Optional green screen wall / small broadcast nook
  • For middle school career exploration:
    • Large, flexible space for varied modules
    • Tables, movable seating
    • At least one hand-washing station
    • Ample storage for equipment bins

Adjacencies

  • Should be near other CTE labs but do not require industrial utilities
  • In some cases, paired with a specialized lab (e.g., engineering classroom next to engineering shop)
