Purpose
Dedicated on-campus driveway for buses to safely enter, queue, load, and unload students.
Activities
- Morning drop-off
- Afternoon pick-up
- Continuous movement and staging of up to 1–11 buses
- Wheelchair lift operations (when integrated with SPED loading)
- Driver communication with site staff
- Field trip loading (where applicable)
Considerations
- Extra-wide drive lane for 40-ft buses
- End-to-end queueing (district standard)
- Curb cutouts designed to prevent bottoming-out
- Adequate turning radius for all bus types
- No staff or vendor parking
- Bollards or barriers preventing parent entry
- Clear sightlines for drivers
- Pedestrian-free zone
- Optional: automated or manual gates for campus lockdown
